Ingenuity test by floating needle is one of the common customs on the festival.

驗巧方法
“投針驗巧”：先準備一只面盆，放在天井里，倒入“鴛鴦水”，即把白天取的水和夜間取的水混合在一起。但常常把河水、井水混在一起倒入面盆就算成了，面盆和水要露天過夜，再經第二天即七月初七白天太陽一曬，到中午或下午就可以“驗巧”了。原來面盆里的水，經過半天太陽光照射，表面依稀生成薄膜，于是取引線(即“縫衣針”)，輕輕平放在水面上，針不會下沉，水底下，就出現針影，這針影若是筆直的一條，即是“乞巧”失敗，若是針影形成各種形狀，或彎曲，或一頭粗，一頭細，或是其他圖形，便是“得巧”。
